The words ojisan and obasan as well as ojīsan and obāsan
are also used in a general way by young people to refer to
anyone of an older generation, for example: tonari no ojisan
‘the man next door,’ ano obasan ‘that lady,’ and ano obāsan
‘that elderly lady.’

There are a few other nouns that come in pairs, with one
neutral, the other exalted.
