Job Research Assignment
You will be given 15 minutes of the class period to research an entry level job related to your
career interest. You will be presenting your research findings to the class. If you are unsure of
your career interest, here are some questions to consider:
1. What are your interests?
2. Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they?
3. What do you like to do for fun?
4. How do you spend your free time?
5. What is your favorite subject in school?
6. Is there a certain subject in school that you excel at more than others?
These questions are meant to spark ideas and point you in a direction for your research. When
researching a job, here are some things to consider:
1. What exactly are the main tasks being done in this job?
2. What are the upcoming trends in this job?
3. Where are the best schools to train?
4. What kind of hours are workers in this job doing? Full-time: 7-3, 8-4, 9-5, part-time, shift work,
commuting from home, work online etc. How much overtime is involved?
5. Is there any travel involved in this job?
6. Find out the conditions under which these workers perform, especially if they are unusual.
7. Do you need licenses, certificates, degrees, special or unusual training? How do you qualify for
this?
8. What is the salary range for this line of work? Know the starting rate, average and top rates of
pay.
9. What do people love about this job? What do they dislike about it?
10. What kind of a contribution will you be making to your community through this work? Is this
important to you?
Once you have chosen a job, you will need to schedule a time to meet with me to review. For
the meeting, you will be asked to bring information about your job (research, statistics, degree
required) and be ready to discuss why you chose that particular job.
If you have any questions or are having trouble coming up with ideas, please let me know and I
will assist you.
