4.7 Flexural Property
The Flexural test was performed on the three points bending mode using a
universal testing machine (UTM), Instron Model 5969. The test was conducted based
on recommendations and procedures stated in ASTM D790-03 [126]. This test method
involves determining the flexural properties of reinforced and unreinforced plastics, as
well as high-modulus composite materials. Moreover, flatwise tests were employed
for all the hybrid and pure composite laminates with the specimens in the form of
rectangular cross section rest on two supports and loaded by means of a loading nose
midway between the supports. From this test, the flexural strength and flexural
modulus were obtained. Table 4.4 shows the summary of flexural properties for hybrid
and pure composite laminates discussed in this study.
