MULTICULTURAL MARCH
Multicultural March is a particularly exciting time for me as Minister for
Multiculturalism. It is an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the
rich cultural diversity of NSW.
In NSW, we come from 307 ancestries, practice 146 religions and
speak more than 215 languages. We are the sum total of every nationality
in the world. This is the unique story we celebrate in March, particularly in
the lead up to Harmony Day.
Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest assets. Day in, day out, it
delivers social, economic and societal benefits for all of us to enjoy.
This month we recognise the community leaders, volunteers, advocates
and media outlets who work hard to preserve their culture, keep their
community informed and provide entertainment.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the unsung heroes
of our state whose vital and often silent contribution helps progress
Australia. The migrants working hard to evolve the education, health,
infrastructure and entrepreneurial sectors. Your efforts do not go
unnoticed by the NSW Government.
