Corrosion Protection
• Copper paint can be used for the hull, if not prohibited by law. However, avoid an electrical interconnection between the
sterndrive, anodic blocks, or MerCathode System by allowing a minimum of 38.1 mm (1‑1/2 in.) unpainted area on the
transom of the boat around these items.
c a a - MerCathode reference electrode
b - Do not pressure wash or paint

IMPORTANT: Do not paint any portion of the MerCathode assembly.
• The sterndrive unit and transom assembly can be painted with a good quality marine paint or an antifouling paint that does
not contain copper or any other material that could conduct electrical current. Do not paint drain holes as this will prevent
cavities from draining. Anodes and MerCathode system reference electrode must not be painted or pressure washed as
this will render them ineffective as galvanic corrosion inhibitors.
