Quest For Gold
By: Nick
It has been raining for hours. Fred was sitting on a sturdy lily pad behind a log. His
hiding place is perfect, he has been waiting for prey but nothing comes by. e rain
makes him impatient and his round stomach has lattened a bit. It has been crumbling.
Fred plans to go out of the pond hoping to find a good catch once the rain slows down a
bit.
Determined to hunt for food, he hops from one pad to another. One last leap and he
lands on the ground near a tall hedge. He positions himself and waits impatiently for his
meal. He hopes for a delicious one. Fred rolls his eyes in excitement when he hears a
faint buzzing. A small bee is in the distance! He stretches his long sticky tongue towards
the lying insect. Swoosh! e bee suddenly turns upward and away.
He feels angry. His stomach becomes angrier. Fred waits for some more to come by. A
red bug is within reach. He aims for his prey. Sadly, the bug is quicker than his tongue.
He feels very frustrated and is angry at himself. His comrade who is looking at him
mocks him. It laughs at him. He lets out a series of loud mocking croaks.
Fred is angrier and hungrier. He vows to disappoint the mocking frog. Silently he waits.
e hungrier he is, the more determined he becomes. A ly passes by but Fred fails to
catch it. e mockery has been persistent. e croaking has become a sign of his failure
and weakness. He is about to give up when a big golden dragon ly passes by.
Fred sits still and positions himself for one last time. He is drooling.. e golden prey sits
on the hedge just above him. is is what Fred has been longing for. He positions
himself perfectly. He cannot let this pass. He stretches his long sticky tongue and then "
slurp!".
