Gently, Arthur unlocked the treasure chest. It creaked open and …
It was empty.
Stood on the peak of the mountain, Arthur was in disbelief and rendered speechless. His
smile instantly faltered and faded. Nothing was in the Emperor’s Chest, only dust and dirt.
Taped on the bottom of the chest however, there was a handwritten note.
“Better late than never, I suppose. From: a better adventurer,” the note read.
Reading this absolutely infuriated Arthur. He ripped out the note and tore it into pieces,
similar to how it tore him into pieces. Though he was at the peak, he was grounded
emotionally and mentally.
The sun had started to sink below the horizon. A beautiful play of purple, red and orange
streaked the sky. The clouds took on a creamy pink hue, like that of cotton candy. It really
would have been perfect for a celebration of victory.
While Arthur was left paralyzed by the shock under the golden sky, the mountain face
started to crumble again. His rock climbing gear which he had left on the edge in
excitement was now gone. Without his gear, it was impossible to descend from the summit
without plummeting to his death instantly. Arthur had to accept that this was his nal
quest, his nal adventure.
And he did.
Arthur, the Legendary One, was never heard from again.
