this issue, various digital tools such as Google Classroom, Google Meet, Youtube,
Schoology, Padlet and Whatsapp were used by lecturers to conduct the online
classes. Hence, digital tools were adapted to implement online learning with the hope
that it could reach the students without fail although the internet might be a problem
for some students. However, IPG Batu Lintang Campus was quite fortunate during this
MCO COVID-19 because most of them stayed in the institute. Therefore, there were
no problems in terms of poor or slow internet connection.
With the good features provided in Google Classroom, it is hoped that Google
Classroom can provide skills, knowledge and experience to students. Through the
good experience gained from using Google Classroom perhaps students will introduce
Google Classroom to others when attending online class in future. Apart from that,
students will learn new skills, gain new knowledge from using Google Classroom as a
digital platform. Having these in mind, IPG Batu Lintang Campus has taken the
initiative to use Google Classroom in conducting online classes. This is to ensure that
all students continue to receive quality education in these challenging times.
Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of students
based on their experience using Google Classroom in attending and managing online
class.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Google Classroom is a popular tool and was introduced in Google Apps for Education
in 2014. This tool helps teachers to create and organize assignments and provide
feedback to students (Izwan Nizal Mohd Shaharanee, Jastini Mohd Jamil & Sarah
Syamimi Mohamad Rodzi, 2016). Google Classroom has provided many benefits for
both students and lecturers. Students can communicate with lecturers and among their
friends with ease. Through Google Classroom, students are able to interact with their
lecturers and group mates during non-face-to-face learning activities, submit
assignments and obtain resources (Agatha Francis Umbit, 2017). In other words,
Google Classroom provides flexible learning time for students and lecturers are able
to provide clear instructions on course learning activities, give feedback on
assignments at any time, any place and anywhere. Janzen (2014) stated that Google
Classroom is easy to use and access which saves much time for students and
teachers. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the students’ experience
using Google Classroom as a tool in their learning process. Besides that, this study
also investigated the effectiveness of Google classroom for learning activities.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Several researches have been carried out related to the use of Google Classroom in
