Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the skills of conducting educational research
among students of IPG Ilmu Khas Campus, Kuala Lumpur. The sample of this study
consisted of 137 students who are currently majoring in Special Education, Visual Arts
Education, Physical Education, Music Education and Teaching English as a Second
Language. This quantitative study uses questionnaire as the main reference. The findings
show that the skills of conducting research among the students of the IPG Ilmu Khas
Campus are at a high level with a mean of 4.06 (sp = .49). Analyses in five (5) aspects of
educational research showed that three (3) aspects recorded high levels they are:
education research process (mean 4.11; sp = .54), literature review (mean 4.18; sp = .59)
and research methodology (min 4.05; sp = .56). The other two (2) aspects, data analysis
procedure (min 3.79; sp = .66) and the research report writing (min 3.98; sp = .58) were
at a moderate level. Subsequent findings indicate that students do not encounter
problems when presenting the research (mean 4.02; sp = .82) and inputs and questions
posted during the presentation are used to make improvements in the writing of the report
(mean 4.23; sp = .62). The findings also show that in the students' perspective their
supervisor provide feedback for improvement purposes (min 4.59; sp = .55) and provide
appropriate advice on the issues encountered (min 4.58; sp = .60). In addition, research
shows that the main problem faced by the students is the time constraints and the
guidance of the supervisor. It is suggested that supervisor is expected to supervise only
one student at a time and provide full guidance in the process of conducting educational
research, particularly in obtaining reference material appropriate to the study conducted.
