Renaissance Lecture on ‘Women in Emerging Kerala’
The position of women in the past has been reshaped in
Kerala through renaissance movements, educational
programmes, programmes to bring gender equality,
migration to and from Kerala, increased recognition
of human rights and moral values. However, there
existed observable gaps in the women participation
in legislature, leadership positions, and ownership of
assets, lands and enterprises and decision making at
household to other levels. VMFT organised a lecture
to mark the position of women in the past, present
and future. Dr. T. K Anandhi, Gender Advisor of
Government of Kerala delivered the 9th Renaissance
Lecture on 2nd February 2019 at Press Club,
Thiruvananthapuram.
She explained the position of Kerala women during
the renaissance period and narrated how it improved
with the targeted efforts of social reformers like
Sree Narayana Guru, Vakkom Moulavi, Ayyankali
and like. She portrayed the glorious trajectory of
Kerala women over the period along with current
challenges and obstacles to achieve gender parity.
