              avatiṇṇa descended: otiṇṇa affected with love;       avaṁ° cp. further avakkāra, avākaroti, avekkhipati.

              (2) In certain secondary verb — formations, arisen on Pāli
                                                                   dragging down, detraction, abasement, in cpd. ukkaṁsâvak°
           grounds, the form o° is used almost exclusively pointing thus
                                                                   lifting up & pulling down, raising and lowering, rise & fall D
           to a clearly marked dialectical development of Pali. Among
                                                                   i.54.
           these formations are Deminutives in °ka usually; the Gerund
                                                                Avakankhati (—°) [ava + kankhati; cp. Sk. anu — kānkṣati] to
           & the Infinitive usually; the Causatives throughout.

              II. Ava as prefix. [P. ava = Vedic ava & occasionally o; Av.
                                                                   (n' = na pattheti C).
           ava; Lat. au — (aufero = avabharati, aufugio etc.); Obg. u —;

                                                                Avakantati & okantati (okk°) [cp. Sk. avakṛntati, ava + kan-
           °siñcati pour out over; °sīdati sink down. — (b) fig. down in
                                                                   tati, cp. also apakantati] to cut off, cut out, cut away, carve —
           connection with verbs of emotion (cp. Lat. de — in despico to
                                                                   (ava:) J iv.155. — pp. avakanta & avakantita.

           and often afford a clue as to the nature of the word in question.

                                                                Avakirati & okirati [ava + kirati] 1. to pour down on, to pour out
