If not rushed you can share a story of how it helped a
pet or client and discuss how you don’t get a
commission or anything from it.
FINANCE COORDINATOR:
Beginning of each day: Look at daily appointments; identify clients can be
eligible (5 years old and less, without current
insurance).
After Dr./Tech Done: “I’d like to tell you about Trupanion Pet Insurance. It
protects against the unexpected. They have only one
plane. It covers 90% of the cost and there is no limit on
conditions that are covered. You may only the exam fee
and 10% of the bill.”
“I can send you and e-mail now that gets your pet
covered for the next 30 days at no cost. There is no
payment information needed. It’ll take me about 1
minute to set this up for you. You will have 30 days to
decide if you want to keep it. Sound okay?”
Log into the site in the exam room. Activate the trial
NOW. Ask the client to look at their phone. Assure they
got the email NOW.
“Thank you. That MUST be activated within the next 24
hours.”
“We recommend a $250 deductible. If you have about
$300 saved for each pet you should be prepared for the
unexpected. Let me walk you to our receptionists to get
you checked out.”
What if the client refuses: Assure the client that it is a FREE trial. If they still refuse tell them you
understand and STOP talking about it.
Drill/Quiz for Insurance Discussions with Clients:
1. Why do we have this procedure? What happens if we don’t?
2. What happens if we do it differently from the above? For YOU? For the doctors? For the client?
3. Practice/Role Play what you will say to the client in your position.
4. Show your trainer how you log in an set this up in the computer with the client free trial.
