3016.2 – Insurance Discussions with Clients
Results Statement: To assure great client service and the highest quality patient care by consistently
informing clients of the benefits of pet insurance. This is done in a way that’s
efficient and helpful for the clients, pets, and staff.
Primary Responsible Position: Client Coordinator, Finance Coordinator
Participating Positions: Doctors, Techs, TA’s, and Receptionists
Why: Good pet insurance with give our clients peace-of-mind, allow our staff and
doctors to focus on the care of the patients instead of money, AND get the pets
better care faster.

Average Client Cost: ~$50 per month.
Recommended deductible: $250
Recommended Age: 5 years and younger
HOW to Recommend: RECEPTIONISTS:
When Booking: “Do you have medical insurance for Fluffy? No. We can
discuss it more during your visit.” List whether or not
they have pet insurance on the appointment window in
AVImark.
Prepping Clip Boards: If NO insurance: Put Trupanion trifold on clip board.
When client arrives: Hand the tri-fold brochure to the client when they
arrive and say, “Here is more information about Pet
Insurance. The doctor will talk to you about this.”
DOCTORS or TECHS:
When finished: “As a doctor my focus is the care of your pet.
Sometimes finances can limit or slow down my care. We
have a way to avoid the financial burden of the
unexpected. I will ask (name) show you how we do this.
It’ll take less than 5 minutes.”
