As if the question fell into deaf ears, I kept myself mum, trying hard to conceal my tensed
composure. I changed the topic purposely.

“That doesn’t matter right now, James. We’ve got a clock ticking on our backs. Be careful
        not to miss anything”.

Having said that, I drove straight home. The once dusky sky, coated in slate-grey clouds
turned to dark night with infinite stars, glued in the distance. Refreshed myself at home, I
sat down on my davenport. My thoughts were cluttered up by the mentally ill person on the
mansion. “How was he so sure of another death?”, I thought to myself. “Maybe he was

there, during the murder. He must have seen him”, I thought. Without any further delay, I
headed to the mentally unstable person’s house. I, stealthily broke into it only to know that
the house was deserted. No signs of the lunatic and his grandfather. Promptly, I walked into
what appeared to the lunatic’s room. I was shell shocked. The same code numbers that I

saw in the mansion on Maria’s and Sophie’s deaths were found stained in scarlet on the
walls. My head spun in terror. I was petrified. Sandwiched between piles of old newspapers,
        I saw a knife.

Grasped it with my handkerchief, I walked slowly, crouching my way back to my police jeep
which was parked behind the house. Getting into the jeep, I called my station’s landline and
Roy, one of the constables attended to it.

“Hello, Roy. It’s me Jack here. Send two constables immediately to Lot. 227, 19th Avenue
Street. Ask them to patrol the house from time to time. This house belongs to a maniac and
his grandfather but they are currently missing. Inform me the moment both of them return
        home”.

Nights turned to mornings and days passed but the lunatic was nowhere to be seen. The 3
females, on the other hand seemed normal. Situations in the mansion too, were
unsuspicious. The night before 23rd August, when everything was hopingly fine, I received
        a call from James.

“Sir, I wish you could drop by the station as soon as possible”.
        “What happened?”

“Sir, the cameras we fixed in the mansion are not working. I’ve no view of what’s happening
        there”.

        “What about the teens?”

“Luckily, they are still under supervision, sir. All three were still kept an eye on.”

“How’s that possible? Ok! You don’t move a muscle at all and keep updating me about the 3
females. Don’t lose them. I’m heading to the mansion.” 9 6
