The relations “less than” and “greater than”
are reversed when signs are changed.
Example 40. Is −π greater than or less than −3?
Solution. On the ‘positive side,’ 3 < π. This relation is reversed when the signs are changed.
−π < −3.
Visually, −π lies (slightly) to the left of −3on the number line.
