The relations “less than” and “greater than”
                                         are reversed when signs are changed.



               Example 40. Is −π greater than or less than −3?

               Solution. On the ‘positive side,’ 3 < π. This relation is reversed when the signs are changed.

                                                          −π < −3.

               Visually, −π lies (slightly) to the left of −3on the number line.
