Businesses were asked if
there were “any specific
challenges or barriers that
you believe will hinder the
growth of your business over
the next financial year (2017-
2018)?” One in 5 businesses
(20%) indicated that the
biggest challenge was the
number of competitors,
with 12% indicating that
aspects of government
formed a barrier or created
challenges.

Businesses were asked
“What services / support
do you think would best
assist the growth and
development of businesses
in the Geelong region?” The
most important support
mechanism identified by
10% of respondents was to
support buying locally. This
was followed by a need to
reduce government red tape
(8%), and a desire to have
improved technology and
internet services (8%).
