GREEN SAND BEACH
                                                                                         Papakolea or Mahana Beach, on the volcanic Big Island of Hawaii,
                                                                                         is one of only a handful of beaches in the world composed of
                                                                                         predominantly green-colored sand. The distinctive hue comes
                                                                                         from the mineral olivine, eroded from rocks in the volcanic
                                                                                         cinder cone that partly encircles the beach.
