Gothic Krakow
The charter granted to Krakow in 1257 facilitated urban
development and allowed for a new and more structured
plan. A Gothic defence wall surrounded the city, and Krakow
began to flourish anew following the coronation of Władyslaw
the Short in 1320. The new satellite towns of Kazimierz and
Kleparz both received municipal charters. The architectural
panorama of Krakow was substantially transformed by the Extent of the City
building of many new churches and the cathedral (the third 1370 Today
on Wawel Hill) in the 14th and 15th centuries. The foundation
of the Krakow Academy, and its subsequent renewal,
contributed greatly to the development of culture and The coat of arms
