2. The 1973 Constitution is the constitution of Martial Law, proclaimed by President Ferdinand Marcos on
September 21, 1972. The 1987 Constitution, on the other hand, is the constitution drafted by the
constitutional commission created by the revolutionary government of Corazon Aquino. Aquino came to
power in February 1986 after what is now known as the peaceful “Edsa revolt” that resulted in the exile
of President Marcos. It is ironic that the “vision” of the constitution of the “dictatorship” was realized in
the constitution of the revolt that toppled it.
