THE INSID
Preparing the choir for the patriotic pro nathanburggraff
gram, Dr. Pattye Casarow fulfills one of
her many duties as the newest faculty
member in the Division of Fine Arts. A
native of the Atlanta area, she and her
family lived in Arizona for eighteen
years. Dr. Casarow earned a B.S. de
gree in music education from Grand
Canyon University and an M.M. and
D.M.A. from Arizona State University.
She taught choral music for two years
at the college level and K-1 2 music for
sixteen years. She testifies how the
Lord prepared her for the role:
God spoke to my heart about five
years ago to pursue a doctorate
to prepare myself for college
teaching. I began the music edu
cation degree and had completed
almost all the course work for that
degree when God again led
through people lie put in my life
and through my heart's desire: to
switch to the doctorate in choral
conducting. I had no idea at that
time where He would eventually
lead me to teach, but last year
when I realized my specialities
were exactly what CCC needed, 1
was humbled and so grateful that
God had ordered my steps several
years previously to prepare me for
this ministry.
Rehearsing a scene for a play
during Acting II class, Lauren
Stauffer, Stephanie Auger,
and Rachel Osborn read over
their parts to better under
stand their roles. Lauren
said, “The people with a com
munications major are enthu
siastic about the same things
I am, which makes learning
more exciting.”
Warming up for her weekly
lesson, clarinetist Christine
Dura practices her scales as
her teacher Mrs. Karen Sharo
observes. Mrs. Sharo is one
of adjunct music professors
that teach private lessons for
the college.
