Never thinking that when she joined the choir such great events would come her way. It was an
honor to be able to pay tribute to the military.
Our other hero in AZ is Shirley Phillips also from Tucson. She has been recognized as the 2017
Military Officers Association of America Surviving Spouse Liaison Excellence Award. Shirley has
gone above and beyond the call of duty. Here is just a “short list” of all that she had done. She
has organized the toys for tots’ drive, cell phone drives, she is an educator for all surviving spouses
and stays up on all changes and then communicates her findings to all. She has been a cook
for fundraisers, sold raffle tickets, worked (volunteered for 13 years) in the pharmacy at Davis-
Monthan AFB to help them better serve the customer needs. For several years she coordinated
high school scholarship drive to make the students aware of the scholarships that were available.
She makes sure that information that she has is communicated to all the surviving spouses and
to the senior communities. She is always reaching out to make sure all information is
communicated timely and does all she can to help and protect the surviving spouses to prevent
any acts of fraud that could affect them. And she is also one of the tri-chairman for the Hope
for Hero’s in AZ this year. THANK YOU,
Shirley! What a gal!!
If you have a hero to celebrate let me
know. I know there are many out there
so let’s say “Thank you” and recognize
them for their hard work also. The
military and their families are in their
hearts and we need to say thank you.
PLEASE keep me informed of your
events. Take pictures and share them.
I want to share with all of ESA the
goods work that we do for our Hero’s
and to always inspire others to do just
one more event.
Hugs to all
