perimentaron un crecimiento ace-
lerado, evidenciando un aumento
de 36.7% en el período 2009-2013.

portaciones (CNZFE) declaró que
la región del Cibao y la provincia de
Santiago en particular han sabido
aprovechar los beneficios derivados
del régimen de zonas francas del
país, en los mercados internaciona-
les; así como la atracción de IED y
la transferencia de conocimientos y
nuevas tecnologías hacia la Región.

cesamiento de pieles y la manufac-
tura de calzados, lo que motivó al
presidente Danilo Medina a emitir
el Decreto 56-14, que crea la Comi-
sión Nacional de Calzados y Afines,
de la cual el ministro Del Castillo
Saviñón también es copresidente.
El objetivo de esa comisión es iden-
tificar e implementar todas las me-
didas legales, económicas, finan-
cieras y operativas necesarias para
lograr la meta de cuadriplicar las
exportaciones de calzados.
Otros productos agroindustriales,
manufactura de plásticos, la indus-
tria de empaques e impresos, así
como servicios basados en tecnolo-
gías de la información, experimen-
tan un elevado dinamismo.

One of the most developed activities in free zones is
the processing of leather and footwear manufacturing,
prompting President Danilo Medina to issue the Decree
56-14, creating the National Commission for Footwear
and Allied, of which Minister Del Castillo Saviñón is also
co-chair.
The purpose of this committee is to identify and im-
plement all legal, financial and operational measures
to achieve the goal of quadrupling exports of footwear.
Other agro-industrial products, manufacturing of plas-
tics, packaging and printing industry; as well as infor-
mation technology services, have experienced high
dynamism.
THE DR-CAFTA
Minister Del Castillo Saviñón explained that the approach
as part of the DR-CAFTA, the Dominican Republic faces
the challenge of increasing the competitiveness of the
productive sectors, which can be achieved with a legal
framework in line with the times and the globalization
and trade liberalization era.
“And as such, recognizing the importance of the coming
tariff reductions, for the years 2015, 2020 and 2025,
represent to our productive sectors, for which Industry
and Trade, through its Bureau of Foreign Trade (Dicoe),
in their management functions of FTAs in force, designs
key activities aimed at helping the national productive
sector,” said Del Castillo Saviñón.
He also appreciated the launch of the 2015 DR-CAF-
TA Strategy, “in order to alert all sectors of the future
that awaits us, as a nation, through the dissemination
of information.”
Castillo Saviñón took advantage of a presentation to
members of the American Chamber of Commerce
(AmchamDR), to highlight the significance of providing
appropriate information on the challenges and opportu-
nities the DR-CAFTA has to offer after 2015, when the
dismantling of tariffs for goods originating in the United
States will be almost complete.
“These actions reinforce the commitment and the wi-
llingness of the Government to strengthen their busi-
ness skills continuously and permanently, which has
always been a key objective of the Ministry of Industry
and Trade,” he said.
