Hydraulic helm
A hydraulic helm is provided with models equipped with hydraulic steering. A complete set of instructions, dimensions, and a
template for mounting the helm are included in the SeaStar Installation Instruction Supplement that accompany the helm. Refer
to Template B, Sport Tilt Helm Mounting Template and Mounting the Helm ‑ Sport Tilt Helm installation instructions in the
manufacturer's supplement. If you cannot locate the SeaStar Installation Instruction Supplement please contact the
manufacturer:

Observe the following:
• The helm may be mounted with the helm shaft horizontal, vertical, or any angle in between. This helm assembly has a
tilt‑wheel design allowing for adjustment of steering wheel position or angle.
• The vent‑fill plug must always be in the uppermost position. Vent‑fill plug mounting location must be protected against
water entry.
• Due to a small amount of internal hydraulic fluid transfer (slip), a "master spoke" or "centered" steering wheel cannot be
maintained with a hydraulic steering system. For best results, use an equal distance spoke steering wheel.

NOTE: For complete measurements and clearance specifications refer to the SeaStar Installation Instruction Supplement
provided with the helm.
• Ensure that the steering wheel will not interfere with other equipment.
• Ensure that selected location will allow unrestricted movement of the steering wheel and use of all tilt positions. ABYC
standards require at least 63.5 mm (2‑1/2 in.) clearance between remote control lever and steering wheel rim under any
possible lever or wheel position.
• Allow adequate space behind dash for fittings and line connections.
• Be sure to attach helm exactly as outlined in instructions, using hardware provided.
! WARNING
Incorrect installation can damage steering components, resulting in serious injury or death from loss of boat control. Use only
self‑locking fasteners when mounting the helm to the boat.
! WARNING
Dirt or contaminants in the hydraulic steering system can damage the steering system's internal components. Damaged
components can lead to serious injury or death due to loss of boat control. Do not allow dirt or contamination to enter the
helm, lines, or cylinder of this steering system and perform all hydraulic inspections, service, or assembly procedures in a
clean work area.
• Use Loctite 567 PST when installing the 90 degree fittings into the helm. Do not use the tape sealer. Fittings must be
installed into the port "P" and starboard "S" openings on the back of the helm and tightened securely. Position according to
the boat design, allowing for proper hose installation and routing.
