Steering Systems

           •   Be sure the cable does not get kinked or pinched.
           •   Cable must not be fastened to the boat or any other objects within 920 mm (3 ft) of the engine (to allow for proper steering
               system movement).
           •   Fasten other portions of the cable every 460 mm (18 in.) using appropriate fasteners.
        Manual Steering

           Complete installation procedure is included in the installation manual. The following items are of particular importance:
           •   For dual installations: Steering assembly can be mounted on port or starboard transom assembly. Refer to Dual
               Installation Tie Bars, following.
           •   Steering assembly bushings and pivot bolts must be lubricated before installation with Special Lubricant 101.

           •   Make sure that there is no debris in swivel assembly bushings.
           •   When installing the steering assembly, pivot bolts should be hand‑threaded into the inner transom plate mounting supports
               to ensure proper alignment. Only after pivot bolts have contacted the transom plate should a wrench be used.
           •   Tighten the pivot bolts to the specified torque. Do not use an air wrench.

           •   Steering assembly must pivot freely.
           •   Tab washer tangs must straddle ridges on the inner transom plate. Tabs must be bent against corresponding flats on bolt

               IMPORTANT: Steering cable must have end dimensions and a locking device that comply with the ABYC standards. Refer
               to Steering Helm and Related Hardware preceding.
                                                         NOTICE

            Adjusting the cable guide tube on the steering assembly can damage components. The guide tube and locknut are tightened
            at the factory with adhesive. Any attempt to loosen the nut or tube can damage to the tube.
