Instrumentation and Controls
The use of the shift assist assembly with this type of remote control can cause the shift lever to move out of gear unexpectedly.
A spacer kit must be ordered separately for attaching the shift cable when using this configuration. Refer to Mercury Precision
Parts and Accessories Guide.

Cable Adjustment
The shift and throttle cable must be installed and adjusted exactly as stated in the installation instructions to achieve proper
operation and avoid drive unit damage. The following items are of particular importance.
THROTTLE CABLE
• The throttle cable brass barrel must be adjusted properly to fully close throttle plates when the remote control is in neutral,
idle position. Failure to do this will result in a high and/or erratic idle speed.
• The throttle plates must be completely open when the remote control is in the forward gear, full throttle position to achieve
optimum performance. Incomplete opening is an indication of improper throttle cable travel (see the information preceding).

ALPHA SHIFT CABLES
• The final adjustment of shift cables on Alpha models must be performed with the drive unit installed.
