14‑Pin Wiring and Rigging for Mechanical Engines
Overview
• On May 25, 2006 MerCruiser converted to a new 14‑pin wiring harness system. This change was a cliff event in that all
engines received the new 14‑pin wiring harness at the same time.
• 496/8.1L engines have been produced with 10‑pin and 14‑pin connections.
• On May 25, 2006 496/8.1L engines became 14‑pin only.
• Along with 14‑pin, the IAC on the V6 and SB V8 was relocated. New ECM calibrations.
• New functionality for SmartCraft (descriptive fault text) was introduced.
• DTS Gen I/MY07 hardware and calibrations introduced.
• 3.0L, 8.1L and 496 Quicksilver engines use 14‑pin connectors.
• The 350 and 383 MPI engines use a 10‑pin connector to simplify repower in older boats.
• On 2006 and newer boats a 10‑pin to 14‑pin adapter will be necessary, or the boat harness changed to 10‑pin.
Serial Number Identification
• MCM 3.0L starting serial number 1A002000
• MCM (other) starting serial number 0W650000
• MIE starting serial number 0W690000
14‑pin engines have a white card on the outside of the carton that says "14‑Pin Connector."
14‑Pin Features and Benefits
• Creates a more positive connection of the engine to the boat harness (eliminates the hose clamp).
• Normal engine functions, including analog gauge information and SmartCraft, are combined into the same harness.
• Maximum accessory load on this harness is 15 amps, reducing amperage through the connector.
