4 Submetering
4.1 Decentralized data collection
As Submetering does not need to be directly linked to a metering operator, this again
offers new business opportunities for KNX specialists.
Submetering offers a wide range of application possibilities. Various building complexes,
floors or specific energy consumers can be compared with each other. As a result the end
customer is able to control energy-intensive processes or to locate loads consuming a lot
of energy and if needed to turn them off or have them replaced by new and more efficient
devices.
If the consumed energy is to be billed internally for instance via a service charge
apportionment, it is recommended to use calibrated and MID certified meters.
In order to monitor internal costs or consumption, alternatively also various metering
equipment can be integrated into KNX.
An example of this is the integration of meters directly communicating on KNX and in this
way providing the collected information to a visualisation.
