Skip Across the Cyclades
Made up of numerous islands clustered
relatively close together in the central
Aegean, the Cyclades (p200) are ideal
for those intent on serious island hop -
ping. If you’re seeking wonderful
beaches, dramatic cliffs and pretty
hilltop villages, try the western line
linking Sérifos (p217), Sifnos (p218)
DISCOVER Greek Islands Your Way islands between Náxos (p236) and
and Mílos (p236). For those after a less
well-trodden route, the string of minor
Amorgós (p220), especially Skhinoússa
and Iraklío (p239) will appeal.

GREEK ISLANDS FOR
ISLAND
HOPPERS
Island hopping is still the best way to see multiple Greek Islands in one
trip – here, you can jump on a ferry and go to whichever island the wind
takes you, where you’re sure to discover brilliant beaches, quirky
characters and a friendly neighbourhood taverna.
Culture and Beaches
in the Ionians
Just like the legendary Sirens,
the beauty and music of the
Ionian islands (p54) are hard
to resist – and may tempt you
to stay longer. The easiest
island hopping is between
the major quartet of islands in
the south, from half-touristic,
half-wild Zákynthos (p82) to
quietly stunning Lefkáda
(p80) by way of sprawling
Kefaloniá (p84) and tiny
mythological Itháki (p86).
Expect cultured capitals,
rugged ridges and superb
sunset beaches, accompanied
by the romantic strains of
guitars and mandolins.
