Abstract
Charity is already popular in Malaysia and waqf is one the form of charity. It is defined
as sacrificing of the owners’ properties to donate some amount of them to help poor
and sickness peoples for seeking the blessing from Allah. Education waqf is financing
the education sector. It is not new in our country. Previously, the waqf educational
system in Malaysia was funded Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR), Sekolah Agama
Negeri (SAN), Madrasah and Pondok. However, in Mesir, Jerusalem, Turkey, Syria
and Bangladesh, education waqf are funded all types of school including religious
institution for primary and secondary level or non-religious institutions. The
establishment of the fund was in line with the Higher Education Strategic Plan, as it
targets the generation of income to cover financial needs in public universities in the
country. Therefore, Polytechnic Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) should take the
same initiative to overcome the limited sources in enhancing education by introducing
the concept of education waqf to all lecturers, staffs and students. 361 students from
all departments were selected as sample of the study. The stratified random sampling
method was employed. Findings revealed that students’ POLISAS have a high level
intention to contribute in education waqf. Hypothesis 3 was supported but Hypotheses
1 and 2 were unsupported. In addition, the intention to contribute in education waqf
must be spread out to the non-academic staffs and academic staffs because we are the
Muslims who become the agents of community development.
