GIANT CLAM
The giant clam grows to its huge size with the help of
photosynthetic microorganisms (zooxanthellae) living in its
colorful mantle tissue, which share the sugars they produce
with the clam. Collected for its meat and shell, it is now rare
throughout its range and international trade is restricted.
