This will allow for forward planning of staff deployment and to ensure the operational needs
of the school are met.
For officers on the school holidays scheme and who have come to a mutual agreement with
their Principals to take their EML flexibly, school holidays that fall in between the officers ML
and EML will not be counted towards their EML period. In such a scenario, officers would be
expected to report for duty during the school holidays that are not covered by ML/EML, if
required. If they are unable to do so, as per current practice officers are required to apply for
leave, which is subject to their Principal's approval.
Shared Parental Leave
The Shared Parental Leave (SPL) is introduced to encourage shared parental responsibility and
give working couples additional flexibility for caregiving arrangements. A female officer that
qualifies for 16 weeks of maternity leave or 12 weeks of adoption leave can choose to share up
to 4 weeks of her maternity leave or adoption leave with her husband.
A male officer can share up to 4 weeks of his wife's maternity to her agreement, if all the follow-
ing criteria are met:
(a) His child is a Singapore citizen;
(b) The child's mother qualifies for Government Paid Maternity Leave; and
(c) He is lawfully married to the child's mother.
A male officer who is legally adopting a child can share up to 4 weeks of his wife's adoption
leave, subject to her agreement, if all the following criteria are met:
(a) There is a formal intent to adopt;
(b) The wife qualifies for Government Paid Adoption Leave; and
(c) He is lawfully married to the child's adoptive mother.
Shared Parental Leave can be taken in blocks of a week, up to 4 weeks. It can be taken in a
continuous period or flexibly over a 12-month period from the birth of the child, subject to
mutual agreement between the school/branch and officer, taking into consideration the
operational needs.
Parent-Care Leave
Officer may apply for up to 2 calendar days of parent-care leave in a year to care for their
parents, including step-parents and parents in-laws when they are unwell or when the main
caregiver is not available or when you need to accompany your parents for their medical
appointments.
Compassionate Leave
MENAAMI
Officer may apply for up to 3 calendar days of compassionate leave (per bereavement) for the
bereavement of their immediate family members. The family members include spouse,
siblings, parents (including step-parents and in-laws) and children. There is no need to submit
the death certificate and it is to be taken within 1 week from the date of bereavement.
