a abolição da pena de morte em Portugal à influência das novas ideias humanistas e liberais
quando os principais modelos penais seguidos em Portugal, como o inglês e o francês, con-
tinuaram por mais de um século a manter a pena capital nos seus ordenamentos jurídicos.
Percorreu -se em Portugal um longo caminho de reflexão e debate que teve um desfecho origi-
nal e pioneiro, com a abolição da pena de morte para os crimes civis.

ishment in their legal orders for more than a century. A long road of reflection and debate
was travelled in Portugal to reach an original and pioneering outcome: abolition of the death
penalty for civil crimes.
