The consumer also has the possibility to access the measured data either via an IP
connexion or as described in the OMS specifications also via KNX RF. In this way the
billing relevant smart metering domain opens up new business opportunities for KNX
integrators, as via the defined interfaces energy consumption can be visualized, in order
to raise the awareness of consumers or those who pay the energy about the conscious
consumption of energy.
Data can moreover be sent per e-mail via visualisation software packages or a touch
panel offering this feature to the controlling department for monitoring purposes.
Some products even offer the possibility to log data. In this way, consumption can be
stored locally in the memory but also on external storage media such as SD cards, and
can be further processed.
A great number of visualisation tools also offer a plug-in, which can be used to measure
the actual consumption or compare the consumption of a defined period of time with that
of the previous year.
This allows predicting consumption and costs, in this way avoiding “unpleasant” surprises
and presenting consumption data more transparently.
