[259] อุบาสกธรรม 5 (ธรรมของอุบาสกที่ดี, สมบัติ หรือองคคุณของอุบาสก อยาง
เยี่ยม — Upàsaka-dhamma: qualities of an excellent lay disciple)

1. มีศรัทธา (to be endowed with faith)

2. มีศีล ( to have good conduct)
3. ไมถือมงคลตื่นขาว เชื่อกรรม ไมเชื่อมงคล คือ มุงหวังผลจากการกระทํ าและการงาน มิใช

จากโชคลางและสิ่งที่ตื่นกันวาขลังศักดิ์สิทธิ์ (not to be superstitious, believing in deeds,
not luck)

4. ไมแสวงหาทักขิไณยภายนอกหลักคํ าสอนนี้ คือ ไมแสวงหาเขตบุญนอกหลักพระพุทธ-

ศาสนา (not to seek for the gift-worthy outside of the Buddha’s teaching)
5. กระทํ าความสนับสนุนในพระศาสนานี้เปนเบื้องตน คือ ขวนขวายในการอุปถัมภบํ ารุงพระ

พุทธศาสนา (to do his first service in a Buddhist cause)

ธรรม 5 อยางนี้ ในบาลีที่มาเรียกวา ธรรมของอุบาสกรัตน (อุบาสกแกว) หรือ ธรรมของ
อุบาสกปทุม (อุบาสกดอกบัว)

[260] อุบาสกธรรม 7 (ธรรมที่เปนไปเพื่อความเจริญของอุบาสก — Upàsaka-dhamma:

qualities conducive to the progress of a lay disciple)
1. ไมขาดการเยี่ยมเยือนพบปะพระภิกษุ (not to fail to see the monks)

2. ไมละเลยการฟงธรรม (not to neglect to hear the Teaching)

3. ศึกษาในอธิศีล (to train oneself in higher virtue)

4. มากดวยความเลื่อมใสในภิกษุทั้งหลาย ทั้งที่เปนเถระ นวกะ และปูนกลาง (to be full
of confidence in the monks, whether elder, newly ordained or mid-term)

5. ไมฟงธรรมดวยตั้งใจจะคอยเพงโทษติเตียน (to listen to the Dhamma not in order
to criticize)

6. ไมแสวงหาทักขิไณยภายนอกหลักคํ าสอนนี้ (not to seek for the gift-worthy outside

of the Buddha’s teaching)
7. กระทํ าความสนับสนุนในพระศาสนานี้เปนเบื้องตน คือ ขวนขวายในการอุปถัมภบํ ารุง

ธรรม 7 นี้ เรียกอีกอยางหนึ่งวา สัมปทาของอุบาสก (สมบัติของอุบาสก — accomplishments
