AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS ' SPEECH ACT TASKED BASED
THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING

Abstract
Speech act competence is very important because it can improve students'
communication skills. However, student activities are not activated to achieve good
communication skills so that their communicative competence is low. The purpose of
this study is to describe the various speech acts used by students through task-based
learning in online learning. The subjects of the research are 24 students of the
Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and
Education, Ekasakti University. The data were collected through content analysis. The
descriptive method was the step chosen in this study, which included three stages;
providing data, analyzing data, and presenting the results. The results of the research
include (1) students are able to produce directive speech acts, namely asking, inviting,
questioning, directing, prohibiting, allowing, ordering, suggesting, interrogating, and
pleading predicting, and expressive speech acts saying thank you, ( 2) students are
able to identify directive speech act, they are asking,questioning, prohibiting, ordering,
suggesting, and pleading, as well as expressive speech acts in the form of saying thank
you. Based on these results, task-based learning through online learning can improve
students' speech act competence.
