ABSTRACT
Inquiry-based learning is a pedagogical approach to learning that combines
various elements that create active learning. Therefore, the study conducted aims
to examine the method of guided Inquiry-based learning on student achievement
in learning Biology Topic 3: Speciation. In this study, the 5E model (Engage,
Explore, Explain, Elaborate & Evaluate) was adapted by involving a total of 56
Biology SB025 matriculation students. Data collection was carried out
quantitatively using Pre and Post evaluation tests. The pre and post-assessment
test question instruments were developed based on CLO (Course Learning
Outcome) and bloom level. Respondents were divided into group
1: Conventional and Group 2: Experimental undergoing inquiry-based
intervention learning. The findings showed that the percentage of post-test
achievement for the conventional group in mastery for high-level questions, C3
was 55.7% and C4 was 37.0% while for the experimental group, a high level of
mastery was achieved namely C3 was 79.3% and C4 was 75.7%. This proves
that inquiry-based learning can help respondents to better understand and
master the concept as well as help in answering high-level questions. The -t-test
analysis for the post-evaluation test found that the mean for the conventional
group was 9.04 compared to the experimental group of 12.32. It is found that the
value of t is 7.03 with the value of sigma (2-tailed) showing sig = 0.01. This
means that the intervention carried out by the researcher on the respondents has
a positive effect on the achievement of the respondents' results. In conclusion,
this study can help lecturers to design a more effective teaching process through
the application of 21st-century teaching by applying STEM learning.

PENDAHULUAN
Pendidikan STEM merupakan satu penerokaan yang boleh berlaku dalam
pelbagai bentuk seperti inkuiri, penyelesaian masalah atau berasaskan projek.
Strategi pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) dalam kurikulum STEM adalah ke
arah pembelajaran berfikrah di mana ianya adalah satu proses pemerolehan dan
penguasaan kemahiran dan ilmu pengetahuan yang dapat mengebangkan minda
seseorang pelajar ke tahap optimum (Norhailmi, & Ahmad Rosdi, 2018).
Pendidikan STEM dalam PdP kini menjadi tumpuan Kementerian Pelajaran
Malaysia (KPM). Bahagian Matrikulasi KPM telah menyahut aspirasi KPM ini
dengan mewujudkan ‘STEMATRIK’ pada Februari 2021. Antara inti pati
‘STEMATRIK’ ialah kompetensi PdP STEM iaitu dengan meningkatkan
kompetensi pengajaran abad ke-21 pensyarah dan pelajar.
